Let's raise the bar at our high schools in Las Vegas, please

Walking to school in Las Vegas, NM

I added a new page to this site. I wrote a rant on the state of our high schools, a rant fueled by my son’s negative experience attending Robertson High School in the City Schools district. Keep in mind that my words are a rant and not a fully crafted story.

I’m working full time – I have to do so in order to make ends meet like most moms around town – I’m homeschooling my son, and finding myself tired of burning the candle at both ends. I want my sons to both have incredible experiences. I want them to have the best this world has to offer.

Our city has a wealth of wonderful teachers, Las Vegas can do better, much better. I keep hoping, praying, wishing that the situation will change in time enough for my youngest son, 12, to have a wonderful high school experience. I know that things are sloooooowly changing. But that change can’t happen overnight. I know that everyone in my tiny Vegas wants the best for our children. We’ll get there. We will. We’re just not there yet, not by a long shot.

In other My Tiny Vegas blog news: I have a large collection of fun Las Vegas, New Mexico stories that used to reside on my now-defunct other blogs. I’ll be posting a series of my favorite stories here soon. Thanks for reading.
